Tax Shark Mission Statement
To provide our customers with a remarkable customer experience and provide our fellow employees with a remarkable career experience.
Family-owned tax service since 1965
TaxSlayer's robust history began a half-century ago when Aubrey Rhodes Sr. founded Rhodes-Murphy & Co. in Augusta, Georgia. An income tax preparation business dating to 1965 has evolved into an innovative tax preparation and filing software development company that retains its founder's commitment to a family-owned business and its employees, customers and community.
Rhodes-Murphy & Co. built on early success to modify and enhance the business. In 1980, Aubrey Rhodes Sr. passed away and his son, Jimmy Rhodes, was elected president. Under new leadership, the company added an income tax school to teach potential employees tax preparation skills.
Tax Technology Trailblazers
The company's venture into software development began in 1989. A new tax software enabled Rhodes-Murphy offices to complete tax returns on the computer instead of by hand, a revolutionary step that improved efficiency. The software increased the number of returns completed and raised the market price for services. When the software development was completed in 1991, it was named TaxSlayer Pro after the original e-mail address of Jimmy Rhodes.
TaxSlayer continues to create modern ways to offer financial services. The TaxSlayer Business Solutions division began offering bookkeeping services for TaxSlayer Pro users in 2005 and eight years later, was marketed to small businesses to simplify online accounting and payroll. Rhodes-Murphy & Co. was sold the same year to existing employees enabling TaxSlayer to focus on tax products. TaxSlayer’s corporate office was built in 2012 and is located in Evans, Georgia.
TaxSlayer remained customer-obsessed and persisted in its commitment to remain innovative. In 2017 TaxSlayer launched Workful (www.workful.com) to help small business owners streamline their day-to-day operational tasks. Workful consolidates payroll, human resources and point of sale services into a single cloud-based solution, resulting in a unified, streamlined workflow that allows owners to focus on the bigger picture—owning their business rather than managing it.
That same year, TaxSlayer took a bold step forward with the introduction of LegalSpark (www.legalspark.com), providing fast, affordable legal advice for every legal issue. LegalSpark offers advice from experienced and approved lawyers at the rate of $49.99 for a 20-minute phone conversation. LegalSpark’s lawyers advise consumers on a single legal matter, which saves them the hassle and expense of engaging with law firms or paying an ongoing retainer. Available in Georgia and launching in multiple states in 2018, LegalSpark is the easiest way to get your legal questions answered.
